Press Release: Bluegrass trio Wood, Wire & Words to play Shrewsbury Folk Festival

Wood Wire and Words are a three-piece family band from the south of England playing critically acclaimed folk/bluegrass-inspired original material. They will be playing the renowned Shrewsbury Folk Festival this year held on the last weekend of August. The band’s sound has been described as a blend of folk, bluegrass and acoustic Americana. They mainly perform original material but with added covers from a wide range of genres thrown in.

The trio are: David Rozzell – songwriter for the band, guitarist and lead vocalist, Clare Rozzell – harmony and lead vocals and double bass and Pat Francis – instrumentalist, playing Dobro, mandolin, guitar and banjo. They formed into a band in 2003/4 and in 2007 they released their first album – Riding The Rails, which has enjoyed great success, including a four-star review in Maverick Magazine and regular airplay on radio stations around the world. In May 2015 they released a second album.

At Shrewsbury the band will be performing once on the Village Stage and also in the Bird In Hand pub (times to be confirmed).

FATEA Magazine: “This Portsmouth-based trio have a very strong, immediately identifiable sound courtesy of David’s forthright singing style, which when allied to Clare’s more traditional dual harmony voice is a potent and engaging force.”… “liberally sprinkled with Pat Francis’s magical dobro”. “…well written songs, played with passion and no little musical panache.”

Chris Davis ‘The Famous Willows’ folk club in Arundel: “The trio have “Knocked everybody’s socks off with airtight harmonies, David’s up-beat guitar, Clare’s solid bass rhythms and Pat’s instrumental wizardry on dobro and mandolin.”

Didmarton Bluegrass Festival: “A band that quietly came and blew audiences away with their beautifully crafted original material and harmony singing. Clare and David Rozzell, with the help of seasoned Bluegrass boy, Pat Francis, just deliver, without fuss but with complete confidence. Absolutely fabulous music!”
